Another delay for the VA EHR implementation triggered an investigation and report from the OIG, which uncovered serious patient safety issues.

A new report from the Office of Inspector General (OIG), centered around the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) new Electronic Health Record Modernization (EHRM) system, found patient safety issues and EHR capability problems when it eventually launches.

A VA spokesperson stated that six weeks prior to the initial March 28 launch date, the implementation was only 75 to 80 percent complete at the Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center in Spokane, WA, which triggered the OIG investigation.

Now, the EHRM program is in its third stoppage since November 2019, this time due to the spread of the coronavirus.
