Ready for some good news about global health and the fight against infectious diseases in a year that’s been filled with not so good news on such fronts? Well, on Monday, a collective of donors around the world announced a new $1.9 billion pledge to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative. That came during the “Investing in Humanity: Uniting to End Polio” event jointly hosted by the Mohamed bin Zayed Foundation and the GPEI in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
The GPEI has been on a journey since 1988 to completely eradicate the polio virus from the world, as I’ve described previously in Forbes. And the world has never been this close to getting rid of the virus that used to...
