New York City’s Mount Sinai is going big on artificial intelligence.

One of the largest academic medical systems in the NYC metro area has tapped Dr. Girish Nadkarni to chair the Icahn School of Medicine’s artificial intelligence and human health department.

Nadkarni’s research includes identifying and addressing bias in AI and implementing AI in clinical settings. In addition to holding patents for AI medical applications, he co-invested the first Food and Drug Administration-approved AI tool for predicting kidney disease.

Nadkarni will partner with Lisa Stump, Ichan’s chief digital information officer and dean for information technology. Their goals: accelerating cures for diseases, producing innovative research, improving patient outcomes and streamlining operations in the health system.
