A delayed closure of New York City-based Mount Sinai’s Beth Israel could force the system to close “other MSBI facilities.”

While the specific facilities were not listed, Loren Rigelhaupt, a spokesperson for Mount Sinai, said in a Jan. 11 statement shared with Becker’s that the system is losing around $500,000 to $600,000 per day and has lost more than $1 billion over the last ten years keeping the facility open.

“We have been raising the alarms for nearly a year over the growing urgency of the financial situation of Mount Sinai Beth Israel,” he said. “[We] will continue down this destructive path until the court grants our long-pending closure motion, which is fully supported by the Department of Health.”
