Becker’s has covered at least eight major health systems that have reported million-dollar losses in the last month.

  1. Renton, Wash.-based Providence, a 51-hospital system, reported a $1.7 billion operating loss for fiscal 2022 amid labor and inflationary pressures.
  2. St. Louis-based, 139-hospital Ascension recorded a $410 million operating loss in the second half of 2022, compared with an operating income of $31 million during the same period last year.
  3. Livonia, Mich.-based Trinity Health, one of the largest nonprofit health systems in the country, reported an operating loss of approximately $298 million for the six months ending Dec. 31.
  4. Pittsburgh-based UPMC reported a $916 million loss in 2022. The 40-hospital system was able to report an operating gain...
