A Medicaid expansion effort in Mississippi died after state lawmakers were unable to agree on compromise legislation, the Mississippi Clarion Ledger reported May 2.

The final version of the legislation was presented to the Senate on May 2 after House Speaker Jason White said his team was submitting a voter referendum, which would have allowed lawmakers to put expansion on the November ballot, according to the report.
