Microsoft computer scientists are partnering with researchers at the Jackson Laboratory to develop artificial intelligence technology for cancer treatment, accelerating precision medicine and improving patient care.

The Jackson Laboratory (JAX), an independent, nonprofit biomedical research institution headquartered in Bar Harbor, Maine, is aiming to use AI and machine learning tools to analyze complex medical and research documents.

The laboratory recently developed a tool called the Clinical Knowledgebase (CKB), a searchable database where subject matter experts store, sort and interpret genomic data to share information about clinical trials and treatment options.

Researchers are trying to find the most efficient ways to extract relevant cancer information from the 4,000 or so biomedical research papers published each day.
