In September 2021 Drs Donald Berwick and Richard Gilfillan published a two-part Health Affairs Forefront article (part 1 here and part 2 here) criticizing Medicare Advantage (MA) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) Direct Contracting program. They claimed MA and Direct Contracting were plagued by a greedy Big Money Machine operated by complicit health plans, physicians, and physician groups. In January 2022 George Halverson wrote a response, and in February 2022 Donald Crane published a separate response. Now, in June 2022 Berwick and Gilfillan have written a rebuttal to Halverson and Crane titled “Medicare Advantage: The Emperor Still Has No Clothes—A Rebuttal To Halverson And Crane.”
