The pace of Medicare Advantage growth slowed in 2022, a report from healthcare consulting group Chartis found.

At least 1.5 million new beneficiaries enrolled in MA plans for 2023 — down from 2.3 million in 2022, 2.2 million in 2022 and 1.9 million in 2021.

Enrollment in traditional Medicare continued to shrink, but at a slower pace than in previous years, according to Chartis’ report. Enrollment in the traditional program declined by 339,000 for 2023, down from losses of 400,000 in 2022 and 1 million in 2021.

Special needs plans enrollment grew 20 percent for 2023 enrollment, reaching a total of 5.5 million enrollees. Enrollment in D-SNPs accounted for two-thirds of the growth in MA this year,...
