Introduction: Tracking Software in the Healthcare Industry

Privacy-related concerns have become increasingly prominent in recent years, especially with the widespread use of third-party tracking tools such as tracking pixels, cookies, and mobile attribution tied to website-related mobile device applications.

In fact, in July 2023 the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Office for Civil Rights (OCR) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced that they had sent a joint letter “to approximately 130 hospital systems and telehealth providers to emphasize the risks and concerns about the use of technologies, such as the Meta/Facebook pixel and Google Analytics, that can track a user’s online activities.”
