AI scribes, sometimes called ambient listening tools, have gone from a distant possibility to a mainstream technology in the behavioral health ecosystem.

It’s no longer a question of “if” a meaningful number of clinicians and clinical organizations would adopt these tools; many already have. What remains to be seen is just how far patient and clinician comfort with the encroachment of listening technology on therapy sessions will allow the technology to advance.

One indicator suggest that AI adoption is picking up among psychologists. A year ago, 71% of psychologists had never used AI in their practice. The share of never-users is now down to 46%, according to a recent survey. But only 8%...
