A key goal of President Donald Trump’s agenda is to make patient health data easier to access and share. A new report suggests that won’t happen without the government investing in enforcement of “information-blocking” rules that make it illegal to impede the flow of health information.

Clinicians, health information exchanges and electronic health record companies, as well as other health IT companies, are prohibited from engaging in information blocking — unnecessary practices that prevent patients and providers from accessing or exchanging patient data.
