If health care leaders want to enhance employee wellness, joy, and trust, they must shorten the distance between management and the front lines and make face-to-face communication their top priority.
The President and Chief Executive Officer of Northwell Health describes several important areas of health care leadership for fostering joy in work in their employees: regular face-to-face communication and in-person socialization with employees, rather than always leaning on the convenience of technology; fostering a continuous culture of learning; balancing between real burnout and resilience; addressing the downsides of information technology; and remaining optimistic and upbeat.
