Hybrid physicians, who work across clinical and nonclinical academic fields, create “social capital” by helping health care delivery organizations enhance performance, communication, and collaboration. The authors describe training programs for hybrid physicians and say the time has come for organizations to actively cultivate, recruit, and support physicians in these vital and increasingly common roles.
