Health insurer Humana will be expanding its CenterWell and Conviva brand primary care operations into 11 states – including four new markets – where the company has medical care providers.

Humana, which is known for providing health insurance benefits to seniors via the company’s privatized Medicare Advantage plans, is growing its business that provides medical care.

Humana and most of its rival health insurers, including UnitedHealth Group and CVS Health, operate diversified portfolios of assets to both pay and provide care. The approach is designed to better coordinate healthcare to improve outcomes and in some cases offer lower cost insurance products with discounts for care at company-owned providers.
