I often say navigating the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) is like training for a sprint and a marathon at the same time; you have to ensure your performance measures are on track for the current year while looking ahead to identify improvements that can be made in the future. While the race that is MIPS is already a lot to keep track of, a new element introduced in July 2019 means participants now have spectators.
