The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) has recently finalized the Health Data, Technology, and Interoperability: Certification Program Updates, Algorithm Transparency, and Information Sharing (HTI-1) final rule. Established under the 21st Century Cures Act, the new HTI-1 final rule mandates updated transparency mechanisms in health information technologies, specifically in the application of artificial intelligence (AI).

This regulation not only strengthens interoperability and clinical support, it also ensures AI is used responsibly. It emphasizes unbiased decision making, patient safety, and health equity.
