Four years ago leading pediatric organizations declared a youth mental health crisis. For a brief period of time, national leaders responded accordingly. The U.S. Surgeon General issued an urgent advisory on protecting youth mental health. In an act of rare bipartisan agreement, Congress passed the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (BSCA) to fund mental health supports in schools and communities.

Now, one year into this administration, we are watching that progress unravel in real time – often caught in a limbo of court decisions and appeals. Yesterday, nearly two billion dollars of grants at SAMHSA were terminated, effectively cancelling [1]all children’s mental health programs at the agency.
