The death of former US Senator and presidential standard-bearer Bob Dole at age 98 has inspired an outpouring of tributes and appreciation for all the ways he served his country throughout his life. It is noteworthy but not surprising that those accolades have come from politicians on both sides of the party divide. While Dole was a rock-ribbed, conservative Republican and proud Kansan throughout his career, he knew how to get things done and didn’t much care for whose name was on the legislation. His most lasting accomplishments include bolstering childhood nutrition through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), providing rights and protections to millions through the Americans with Disabilities Act, and much more.
