Only 16 percent of patients receiving social services help were positively screened for social determinants of health.
Social determinants of health screenings may not be doing enough to addressing social needs in high-risk patients, according to new research from Boston Medical Center and the Boston University Schools of Medicine and Public Health, obtained via email.
Specifically, only a small proportion of individuals facing a utilities shut-off – something that happens when one is unable to pay her utilities bills – were accurately identified in a social determinants of health screening.
