Inequities that already exist in the healthcare system, and may be amplified by LLMs, could be addressed through the proving ground of artificial intelligence assurance labs, according to Brigham Hyde, CEO of Atropos Health.

The idea behind artificial intelligence assurance labs – where large language models and other AI technologies can be simulated and tested – is that they can improve the efficacy and fairness of predictive analytics, disease detection, decision support and other healthcare AI tools.

The role of AI assurance labs in frameworks, like health IT certification regulations promulgated by the U.S. Health and Human Services, aiming to establish healthcare AI trust and transparency has been a government and industry goal for the year ahead.
