The funding will support patient access to mental healthcare for both pediatric and adult populations, HHS said.

The Department of Health & Human Services is allocating $3 billion and $14.2 million in American Rescue Plan funding to improve patient access to mental healthcare for adults and teens, respectively, the agency said in separate announcements.

The funding comes as the US faces a major mental health crisis following more than a year of a global pandemic. Social isolation, a key social determinant of health, has set in for Americans, while those with mental health conditions prior to the pandemic saw care access disruptions that deteriorated their conditions.
