Letter serves as reminder of mandatory coverage for children enrolled in Medicaid and CHIP

In a recent letter from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), through the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), state health officials were reminded they must provide “12 months of continuous coverage for children under the age of 19 on Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) beginning January 1, 2024.” The letter served to reinforce the mandatory coverage requirement, ensuring that children enrolled in Medicaid or CHIP will have access to the healthcare that they need.
