On October 22, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that dozens of E. coli infections were linked to McDonald’s Quarter Pounders. In response, McDonald’s temporarily pulled Quarter Pounders off the menu in several states. Thus far, at least 75 people in 13 states have been infected, with 22 hospitalized and one death from illnesses that began during the last week of September. Preliminary data implicates slivered onions used on Quarter Pounders as a possible source, and recent testing by the Colorado Department of Agriculture rules out beef patties, according to the company. Other fast-food chains, including Taco Bell, Pizza Hut and KFC also pulled onions from their menus and the onion supplier, Taylor Farms, issued a voluntary recall....
