On December 21, 2017, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced that 8,822,329 million individuals had either selected plans or been passively reenrolled for 2018 by midnight Eastern Time on December 15, 2017 through HealthCare.gov. This number is only slightly below the 9.2 million plan selections for 2017, even though the open enrollment period was half as long.

During week seven 4,143,968 individuals selected plans or were passively enrolled through HealthCare.gov. This included 1,015,631 new consumers and 3,128,337 returning consumers. The report does not break down how many of these actively enrolled and how many were 2017 enrollees who were passively reenrolled in the same plan they had last year or a similar plan.
