  • Less alarm fatigue in overworked pediatric nurses, more time for imperiled pediatric patients. Researchers have demonstrated the use of machine learning to accurately predict critical events in hospitalized children. The early-warning system significantly boosted watchfulness for clinical deterioration in patients at elevated risk. In the process it helped healthcare workers appropriately avoid running toward overactive bedside monitors. The work was conducted at the University of Wisconsin and described at this week’s annual meeting of the Society of Critical Care Medicine.
