Researchers at the global nonprofit biomedical research institution, The Jackson Laboratory (JAX), in collaboration with researchers at the Bateman Horne Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, have discovered biomarkers that show how myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) disrupts the microbiome, immune system, and metabolism of patients. The researchers believe that their findings may also be relevant to long COVID, as it shares many similarities with ME/CFS.

ME/CFS is a disabling, chronic biological illness that affects different parts of the body. Between 17 to 24 million people worldwide suffer from the condition, which is believed to have become more prevalent since the COVID-19 pandemic.
