– Each type of data has its purpose, if we can harness it efficiently

All day long we deal with data.

Our morning e-mail is jam-packed with reports on everything from cross-sectional data on our patient panels to compliance and quality reports from insurance companies and the hospital. Not to mention the in-baskets of our electronic health records, which are swimming with data.

The data are there in the history we take from our patients, their blood test results, and the results of the imaging they do. They are there in their family history, their level of activity, their habits, the things they do that are good for them, and the things they do that are bad for them.
