As many providers struggle to comply with the next stage of the Meaningful Use program, they are also trying to prepare for another mandated electronic reporting requirement: Medicare’s Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS).

The MIPS combines parts of the Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS), the Value-based Payment Modifier, and Meaningful Use into one single program based on quality, resource use, and clinical practice improvement. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is still finalizing both the MIPS program and the rules for Stage 3 of Meaningful Use, with a comment period ending Nov. 17th for MIPS and ending in early December for the Stage 3 rules.
