Health insurance companies from well-established players and Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans to startups are once again looking to expand their geographic reach to grow their already booming Medicare Advantage businesses.

Established players in Medicare Advantage include Anthem, the Aetna unit of CVS Health, Centene, Cigna, Humana and UnitedHealth Group and they are expected to announce their plans for Medicare Advantage’s 2022 coverage year in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, other companies ranging from startups and multi-state Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans are already unveiling their expansions into new states and counties for 2022 in what promises to be a fiercely competitive year for health insurers.
