On May 6, 2024, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (“CMS”) and the Office for Civil Rights of Health and Human Services (“HHS”) issued a final rule implementing Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act (“Section 1557”) (the “Final Rule”). The Final Rule went into effect on July 5, 2024. Pursuant to the HHS Frequently Asked Questions document, the Final Rule is intended to restore and strengthen civil rights protections for individuals.
