Proposed legislation from House members would look at how to use health impact assessments to understand how policies affect SDOH.

A new legislative proposal in the House of Representatives would call on the Department of Health & Human Services to study the use of health impact assessments in federal policymaking. Ultimately, this seeks to understand how policymakers can build regulations that don’t adversely affect the social determinants of health.

The Assimilating Health and Equity Assessments into Decision-making (AHEAD) Act (HR 7510), which was proposed by TJ Cox of California’s 21st district, does not directly call for the use of health impact assessments during federal policymaking.
