The federal government shutdown surpassed the one-month mark Nov. 1, putting it on course to become the longest shutdown in U.S. history. The current record is held by the 2019 shutdown, which lasted 35 days.

Here are four updates on where the shutdown stands:

1. Bipartisan discussions among rank-and-file senators are moving forward, four people granted anonymity to discuss the conversations told Politico Nov. 3. The White House has said they will not meet with Democrats until the government opens, but administration officials are in touch with the Republican senators involved in the talks.
