More than a dozen years after its enactment, policy and legal disputes related to the Affordable Care Act (ACA) remain. Various opponents have worked to overturn or chip away at the ACA since it was enacted. And as a result, several landmark Supreme Court decisions have hampered the ACA’s goals. The recent election results create a new policy and political dynamic, making the future of the ACA’s implementation uncertain.

The ACA is currently experiencing record level enrollment, thanks to supportive congressional and executive action over the last four years. But serious challenges loom, with the enhancements to the premium tax credit expiring entirely after 2025.
