Steve Posnack has been named acting assistant secretary for technology policy for the Department of Health and Human Services where he’ll spearhead technology implementation policies across HHS internally. Additionally, he’ll serve as acting national coordinator for health information technology.

Posnack was previously principal deputy to Micky Tripathi, who held the role during the Biden administration and left in January.

The Office of the National Coordinator sets rules for technologies within federally certified electronic health records, including artificial intelligence capabilities. It also works with the health care industry on the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement, also known as TEFCA, which is an open network for sharing patient records.
