Experts say health systems must weigh the costs and the risk of products being unavailable. Hospitals need good data and strong leadership to deal with ongoing challenges.

More than two years into the COVID-19 pandemic, hospitals and health systems say they continue to see supply chain issues.

Most hospital executives surveyed (71%) said they are experiencing delays in obtaining needed supplies, according to a recent Kaufman Hall report. Only 9% of those surveyed said they haven’t had any disruptions. Many systems were affected by a shortage of contrast dye used in imaging earlier this year, prompting some organizations to delay some tests in order to preserve supplies for urgent cases.
