As ambulatory care organizations evaluate the future of their core IT systems, two vendors—Epic and athenahealth—continue to stand out in providers’ minds, with small and midsize practices increasingly drawn to flexible, interoperable platforms, according to the latest report from KLAS Research.

The 2025 edition of Ambulatory Core Solutions Mindshare, based on input from more than 1,200 individuals representing 689 organizations, reveals the unsurprising fact that Epic commands more mindshare than any other vendor, followed by athenahealth and Oracle Health. The findings highlight a growing appetite for specialty-specific and cost-efficient technologies, particularly among independent practices.
