The report found positive relationships between EHR utilization and HIE capabilities in bed size, ownership status, chain pharmacy affiliation, US Census divisions, and MSA status.

From 2012 to 2016, the percentage of residential care communities that utilized EHRs had a 6 percentage point increase from 20 percent to 26 percent, according to a Trends in Electronic Health Record Use Among Residential Care Communities report, conducted by the National Center for Health Statistics.

Additionally, there was an increase in the percentage of health information exchange (HIE) capability among residential care communities, from 47.2 percent in 2012 to 55 percent in 2016.
