eHealth Initiative warned aspects of ONC’s proposed information blocking regulations may be too broad and overly harsh.

In recently submitted public comments, the eHealth Initiative (eHI) suggested some aspects of ONC’s information blocking regulations included in the proposed interoperability rule are too broad, complex, and costly.

Specifically, eHI took issue with the proposed rule’s classification of ‘actors,’ or individuals and organizations subject to penalties for engaging in activities perceived as contributing to information blocking.

Under the proposed policy, health information exchanges (HIEs) and health information networks (HINs) are eligible for penalties.
