AMA, ACP offer advice to the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation

Physician groups offered their two-cents on charting a “new direction” for healthcare at the invitation of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI).

For instance, the American Medical Association (AMA) pressed CMMI to accelerate limited-scale testing of models recommended to the center by a body of healthcare experts that CMS appears to be ignoring.

Other groups urged CMS to encourage voluntary participation in alternative payment models (APMs); to use caution when incorporating cost and quality measures, whose validity may be suspect; and to provide resources to the designers of these APMs for accessing claims data and analytics support.
