A broad coalition of international experts has developed a framework to integrate digital health competencies into medical education, addressing a skills gap in the healthcare workforce. The Digital Health Competencies in Medical Education (DECODE) framework, outlined in a consensus statement published in JAMA Network Open, establishes a global standard for training future physicians in digital health.

According to the statement, the rapid digitalization of healthcare has outpaced medical education, leaving many physicians unprepared to navigate modern digital health technologies. “Medical graduates must be equipped with the necessary digital health competencies to provide safe, efficient, and high-quality care,” the statement said.
