Cyberattacks and scams have been in the news lately, with one study published in Security Journal finding that cybercriminals intentionally are targeting older adults as potential victims, driven by the belief that they are wealthy and easy to deceive.

A recent report from the Senate Special Committee on Aging found that fraud and scams cost older adults almost $5 billion in 2024, and a recent Federal Trade Commission report found that people in their 60s, 70s and 80s accounted for 74% of all fraud loss reports made to the agency last year, with losses totaling $650 million.
