One of the hardest words to define nowadays is “normal.” Depending on where you live, life might seem fairly close to it or lightyears from it.

On our nation’s shores, where sands are peppered with people all cozied up on their beach blankets, “social distancing” feels like a foreign concept. In metropolitan areas, by contrast, many Michelin-star chefs are still putting $100 dishes in carryout containers. On opening weekend, about 17,000 NFL fans gathered in Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium to boo a pregame “Moment of Unity” while zero fans were on hand in Detroit to boo the team’s embarrassing home opener.
