In the United States, HIV continues to be a significant cause of morbidity and mortality. In 2023, more than 39,000 people were diagnosed with HIV, and approximately 4,500 people died from causes related to HIV. Black/African American and Hispanic/Latino communities are disproportionately impacted, as well as gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM). Sixty-six percent of new diagnosis are among MSM, and 38 percent are among Black/African American individuals. More than 50 percent of new HIV diagnoses occur in the South.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimated that new HIV infections decreased by 12 percent from 2018 (N=36,200) to 2022 (N=31,800). This is due, in large part, to the Ending the HIV Epidemic...
