From unveiling a rebate-free pharmacy model to debuting a controversial new downcoding policy, here are eight updates on Cigna that Becker’s has reported since Sept. 26:
1. The Cigna Group posted a $1.9 billion profit in the third quarter of 2025, up from $739 million during the same period last year.
2. The Cigna Group’s Evernorth division introduced a rebate-free pharmacy benefit model that it says will lower medication costs and simplify drug pricing. The move could simplify drug pricing, but leaders on Cigna’s Oct. 30 earnings call warned of some potential growing pains while adjusting to the change.
