AI systems are becoming increasingly intertwined with the applications we use, both desktop and web-based. Continuing that momentum, OpenAI just turned ChatGPT from a conversational system into a platform with real distribution. The company opened an app directory, invited developer submissions, and made those apps callable by name inside any conversation.

This allows users to stay within a single conversation and interact with and integrate with third-party applications. Instead of having to cut and paste or otherwise stitch and integrate tools together, the native embedded experiences allows users to have the tools and data come to them.
