The Trump administration’s new pick to lead the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has a background in artificial intelligence.

Susan Monarez will be the CDC director nominee, two people in the Trump administration who were granted anonymity told POLITICO’s Adam Cancyrn and Sophie Gardner.

Before joining the CDC earlier this year, Monarez was deputy director for the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health.

She has also led initiatives using AI to improve health care affordability and accessibility and to address public health issues like the opioid epidemic, maternal mortality, health disparities and the U.S.’ inadequate organ donation and transplant program.
