Last night, the House of Representatives passed bipartisan legislation, The Lower Costs, More Transparency Act. As a sponsor of the bill, House Committee on Energy & Commerce Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) stated, “the Lower Costs, More Transparency Act does exactly what it says it does—it delivers lower health care costs for the American people and brings much-needed transparency to our nation’s complex health care system.” This bipartisan legislative victory makes an initial step in the journey of relying on market force to curb healthcare spending. If we stop here, price transparency won’t fully realize its potential. Why? For a simple reason:
