- Ascension got the green light this week from an Illinois state board to sell nine hospitals and four care sites to Prime Healthcare for approximately $375 million.
- Should the deal close as expected at the end of the year, Prime has pledged to invest $250 million into developing the facilities and agreed to keep the majority open for at least three years.
- However, the for-profit health system is seeking approval to close 40-bed Ascension St. Elizabeth — a move that Ascension supports, according to a spokesperson.
