Feature expected to notify over 1 million people with undiagnosed hypertension in the first year

The FDA cleared the Apple Watch’s hypertension detection feature, according to Bloomberg News.

The new feature, which will reportedly be rolled out as early as next week, is said to detect high blood pressure (BP) using the wearable device’s optical heart sensor over a 30-day observation period. If chronic hypertension is detected, the user is notified and encouraged to send results to their health provider.

Apple expects the feature to notify over 1 million people with undiagnosed hypertension within the first year.
